- The .45-70 is certainly a record-breaker. It
- is the oldest cartridge to still be chambered in
- modern rifles and, along with the .44-40, to
- still be listed in the factory commercial
- ammunition tables. In other words, you can still
- buy it over 120 years after it was introduced!

- Considerable difference exists in the ability
- of the older vs. newer .45-70 rifles to handle
- heavy charges. Handloaders should be mindful to
- insure that their heavy loads are restricted to
- arms that are capable.

- In a modern rifle, the .45-70 is capable of
- taking any North American game. Bullet weights
- range from around 300 to 500 grains.
