  1.     The .45-70 is certainly a record-breaker.  It 
  2. is the oldest cartridge to still be chambered in 
  3. modern rifles and, along with the .44-40, to 
  4. still be listed in the factory commercial 
  5. ammunition tables.  In other words, you can still 
  6. buy it over 120 years after it was introduced!

  8.     Considerable difference exists in the ability 
  9. of the older vs. newer .45-70 rifles to handle 
  10. heavy charges.  Handloaders should be mindful to 
  11. insure that their heavy loads are restricted to 
  12. arms that are capable.

  14.     In a modern rifle, the .45-70 is capable of 
  15. taking any North American game.  Bullet weights 
  16. range from around 300 to 500 grains.
